A Little About MeFirst, and for most, I am a Mother (or as my kids like to call me, Mom, Mum, Momma, Mommy, Mum...) and this has been my main full time job for the past 8 plus years.
Yoga for me has always been an outlet. I first came to yoga 9 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. I was looking for a way to comfort the typical aches and pains of pregnancy. With one small movement of swinging my arms loosely around my waist, I felt immediate relief in my lower back and was hooked. A few years later, after my second child was born, I experienced a severe depression. I had maintained my practice throughout the years but now I sought to add meditation in hopes to gain further relief. Yoga and meditation took on a whole different role in my life, one of much more importance than simply a strength training routine. Through regular practice and breathing techniques I have been able to manage my anxiety and depression, tools that have been invaluable. I hope to continue gaining more knowledge and insight about myself through my work and trainings as I continue to utilize these valuable tools off my mat and into my daily life. Anyone who is close to me knows that I am not much of a "sharer". I've always liked being private and keeping things to myself, especially my feelings. I am great at expressing positive, good and happy emotions, however, I tend to stuff the negative, sad empty feelings away (far away), to the deepest, darkest parts of me, where nobody, not even myself, can see. I consider myself to be a master compensator. A "perfectionist" at pretending everything is "okay". Because if I can't see it or feel it, I don't have to deal with it, right? Wrong. Over the past year, I have really learned (and continue to learn) that vulnerability is where true strength resides. This concept is something that I struggle with daily. I am really good at taking care of other people, but I have recognized the importance of taking care of myself. So Here I Am. This Is Me, as I continue on this exciting (but scary) journey. |
